Brandon Philips

Dr. J. Brandon Philips joined the faculty at McGeorge School of Law in 2026. He serves as a Director of the Public Policy Programs and an Assistant Professor of Public Policy and Administration. He received his PhD in Public Administration and Public Policy from the University of Texas at Arlington College of Architecture, Planning, and Public Affairs. He also holds an MPA degree from the same program. 

 

Dr. Philips has over 15 years of experience in the nonprofit and public sector, in roles ranging from criminal justice and court advocacy to homelessness, health disparities, grant writing, and organizational consulting. Dr. Philips is also on the leadership team for the Critical Perspectives Section for the Association for Research on Nonprofit Organizations and Voluntary Action (ARNOVA). He was recently appointed Associate Editor of the Journal of Public Affairs Education (JPAE). Dr. Philips’s is the recipient of the 2025 Outstanding Article Award for JPAE, presented annually at the Network of Schools of Public Policy, Affairs, and Administration conference. 

 

His research interests include Latino Critical Theory applications to create social innovation in service delivery for public and nonprofit organizations, health disparities facing marginalized communities, the role of nonprofits in advocacy and social change, the role of nonprofits in protecting minority voting and constitutional rights, and other social issues facing the Latino/a/é and other marginalized communities.
