JOTA is a solo performance that follows a young queer Mexican Indigenous woman as she navigates a pivotal moment of self-discovery and transformation. Created by multidisciplinary artist Katherine Bahena-Benítez, a playwright-in-residence with La Lengua Teatro at Brava Theater and member of the Miranda Family Fellowship's Slaywriting Cohort, the piece reclaims a term historically used to marginalize LGBTQIA+ communities and transforms it into a story of resilience and empowerment.
